MUST - A National Education Campaign for Older Adults and Caregivers

NCPIE launches redesigned, enhanced, user-friendly MUST website. Welcome!
Americans are living longer and better than ever. This is due in large part to advances in medicine that have led to earlier diagnosis and improved treatment of chronic conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, cancer and stroke — just to name a few. Nowadays, most people 65 and older have at least one chronic health condition, and likely take multiple medications.

Medication Use Safety Training (MUST) for Seniors™ is an online educational campaign and workshop designed to promote safe and appropriate medication use. This interactive program includes a ready-to-use PowerPoint presentation with presenter notes and handouts, tips for taking medications safely, feature articles, videos with experts and much more.

MUST for Seniors provides the basics of mediation safety to help older adults and those who care for them:
  • Understand the importance of sticking with recommended treatment plans
  • Avoid medication misuse
  • Recognize, report and manage common side effects
  • Prevent medication errors and potentially dangerous interactions with other medications, food or alcohol
  • Feel more confident in safely using medications

As 79 million aging baby boomers get older, they and their caregivers must take the time to learn about their medications and how to avoid problems. It’s a must!

MUST for Seniors can be used by older adults, caregivers and healthcare professionals for self-education and to present this information in their communities (for example, at a senior center, church, library, pharmacy or doctor's office).
