Privacy Notice - National Council on Patient Information and Education (NCPIE) Effective: April 1, 2007, Revised: October 26, 2009

We Respect Your Privacy / Our Commitment To Privacy
The National Council on Patient Information and Education (NCPIE) respects your concern about privacy. This notice explains NCPIE's online information practices and the choices you can make about the way information you provide us is collected and used. This notice is available on our homepage and every page throughout the site for your convenience.

NCPIE engages in information collection from its website solely for the purpose of advancing the safe, appropriate use of medicines through enhanced communication.

The Information We Collect
This notice applies to all information collected or submitted on the NCPIE website. NCPIE gathers two types of information:

  • Personal, or "individually identifiable" information you voluntarily provide to us; and,
  • Standard non-identifying web server/traffic information commonly referred to as "aggregate information," regarding overall Web traffic patterns.

On some pages, you can order products, make requests, and/or register to receive materials. The types of personal information collected at these pages are:

Individually Identifiable Information
NCPIE is the sole owner of and the only organization that uses the information collected on this site. We do not sell, share, or rent this information to others under any circumstances. Information on individual site visitors is requested for purposes such as materials ordering, donation and membership processing, future direct mailings and information requests.

In the case of contributions, membership or material orders we will also request credit card information (card number, card type, expiration date) and will process your order via a secure server.

The Way We Use Information
We use the information you provide about yourself when placing an order only to complete that order. We do not share this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to complete that order.

We use return email addresses to answer the email we receive. Such addresses are not used for any other purpose and are not shared with outside parties.

You can register with our website if you would like to receive updates on our new products and services. Information you submit on our website will not be used for this purpose unless you fill out the registration form.

The personal information you provide is considered a company asset and may be included among transferred assets if NCPIE, any or all of its subsidiaries or affiliates, or any of their assets is ever acquired by or merged into a third party.

Opt-Out / Amend / or Correct Information
You may submit a request to opt-out, amend or correct personal information maintained by NCPIE at any time by contacting NCPIE at (301) 340-3940.

Aggregate Information
In addition to information provided by our visitors, we anonymously track site visits using normal Internet tracking tools to help manage our system and better serve our audience. This information is used for reporting purposes only and includes information such as: total number of visits, most visited sections, peak traffic times, browser versions, search terms used, and average duration of visit. We may also share such non-identifying and aggregate information with potential sponsors / supporters. For example, we may tell a potential sponsor that X number of individuals visited a certain area on our website, but we would not disclose anything that could be used to identify those individuals.

Finally, we never use or share the personally identifiable information provided to us online in ways unrelated to the ones described above without also providing you an opportunity to opt-out or otherwise prohibit such unrelated uses.

Changing your Information
If at any time you wish to make changes to the personal information previously provided, we will take steps to verify your identity before making any corrections. You will be asked specific reference questions including full name, address, telephone numbers, and if applicable, credit card numbers and expiration dates.

Our Commitment To Data Security
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.

All information entered into our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system goes through a secure channel using the high-grade ASE-128 128bit encryption scheme. Only NCPIE administrators and NCPIE authorized agents are permitted to access to the CRM system.

The CRM server is protected with a firewall and stored at a secure collocation site maintained by Mid-Atlantech Broadband.

Please note that online payments are accepted via PayPal, where the PayPal Privacy Policy applies.

Our Commitment To Children's Privacy
Protecting the privacy of the very young is especially important. For that reason, we never collect personal information and/or credit card information on our website from those we actually know are under 13, and no part of our website is structured to attract anyone under 13.
